Learning from the pros – we’ve selected the best of the best: Mountain guides, snow scientists, and a ski racer. The who’s who of the deuter Family will be at the deuter off-line days.

Michael Bückers

Mountains are everything to him. And moving through them his favorite thing to do. Add some snow, and some like-minded people into the mix, and the day only gets better. Michi (born in 1984), is a state certified mountain and ski guide, as well as a sports scientist. He borrowed his personal mantra from mountaineering legend Alex Lowe: “The best climber is the one having the most fun.”

Ben Reuter

There’s not much about snow that Ben doesn’t know about. A mountain and ski guide, he’s also a climate and snow scientist. He led the research project for the Swiss Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF into the connection between weather and avalanche formation. Ben (born in 1984) lives together with his wife Neige (no joke) near Grenoble. Currently Dr. Snow is working mainly for Meteo France.

Monika Hümmer 

Watching Moni ski is like an out-of-body experience. So it’s no wonder she’s on the teaching and demo team of the German Association of Sports Teachers (DSLV). And since 2018 she’s also been a successful mountain and ski guide. The calm, empathic yet cheerful way she has about her, makes people immediately feel at ease.

Aside from ski touring every day, there will be exciting informative talks.

1. Climate protection: Climate change is putting our winters at risk, and life as we know it. In this POW (Protect Our Winters) workshop with Jonas Schneider, CEO of POW, you’ll learn about what action you can take as an individual. You can start the process off by opting for sustainable methods of travel to and from the deuter off-line days. 

2. Planning a ski tour: with our deuter Team member, climate and snow scientist, Ben Reuter, you’ll learn how to interpret avalanche reports according to the ski tour you plan to undertake and to recognize and therefore minimize risks right from the planning stage. There will also be an introduction to the White Risk app — a clever tool to help with planning a ski tour.

3. Mountain first aid: Safety first – for us, it’s not only important that we equip you with the best gear, but we also want to equip you with the knowledge to make your mountain adventure safe and fun.. Alpine safety expert, Philipp Dahlmann, will demonstrate how to respond correctly in an emergency and which rescue techniques are effective in alpine terrain.

Participation in the deuter off-line days costs you 100 €.

You do not have to be a pro to take part in the deuter off-line days, but you do have to be confident skiing off-piste, have completed multiple ski/ splitboard tours and consider yourself to be at least of intermediate proficiency.  

Check whether you meet the requirements:

• You are confident skiing or snowboarding off-piste
• You have a good level of ski touring / splitboard touring skills (e.g. you can carry out a kick-turn and other basic techniques)
• You can easily cope with min. 1,000 meters vertical ascent and 1,500 meters vertical descent.
• You can bring your own avalanche safety equipment with you: avalanche beacon, probe, shovel
• You are fit and healthy and have no cardiovascular or respiratory diseases.
• Participants must bring their own ski touring skis or splitboard (not snowshoes plus snowboard)

• KEEN 🏔️: I’m obsessed with ski touring! I’m fit enough to cover 1,000 vert. m ascent and 1,500 vert. m off-piste descent, and look forward to a nice little break at a mountain hut afterwards.
• PRO ⛷️: I’ve done loads of ski touring. 1,000 vert. m ascent and 1,500 vert. m off-piste descent is easily within my capabilities. I look forward to going on a ski traverse within a group of people of similar ability.
• NO LIMITS 🔥: I am fit enough to climb Mont Blanc. In the right conditions, I can also climb several peaks in one day. Skinning up and skiing down, doing laps in the high mountains — that’s what it’s all about for me.

We’ll have you kitted out in the best gear there is. You can select from a deuter avalanche airbag backpack (Alproof or Alproof Lite), or the Freescape Lite or Freerider Pro to take on tour with you. And for an added bonus, we’ll be drawing one participant’s name to win a Freerider Pro backpack at the end of the deuter off-line days – to accompany you all your ski touring adventures to come.

Alproof:
