De top van een Himalaya achtduizender lijkt onhaalbaar voor ons wandelaars. Maar de Nepalezen denken waarschijnlijk hetzelfde als ze naar de Duitse economie kijken. In termen van bruto binnenlands product per hoofd van de bevolking staat Duitsland op de 5e en Nepal op de 91e plaats in de wereld. Figuurlijk gesproken is het verschil gelijk aan de afstand van de met jungle bedekte uitlopers van de Himalaya tot de ijzige top van de Mount Everest. Door Nepalhilfe Beilngries te steunen, hopen we te laten zien dat we allemaal verantwoordelijkheid dragen voor de regio's waar we naartoe reizen. De natie is zeer gastvrij geweest voor ons, bergbeklimmers en trekkers, en heeft ons voorzien van zijn fantastische landschap om van te genieten. En we willen de mensen terugbetalen.
In 2024, Manfred Lindner from Nepalhilfe Beilngries approached deuter with a request to support the purchase of a school bus for the care home for children and young people with disabilities in Lhubu, Nepal. Transportation had been a major challenge for many families, as only a few owned a vehicle.
With a donation of 30,000€ spread over three years, deuter made it possible in early 2025 to purchase an 11-seater electric school bus and cover the annual operating costs. This ensures reliable daily transport to the day care facility – a great relief for the affected families and an important support for the institution.

Education for Chharka: A Passive Solar House Makes It Possible
In July 2022, deuter launched a new school project in Nepal. For three years, we committed to supporting a school initiative in Chharka, located in the Dolpo region, with an annual contribution of €10,000. In addition to helping finance the school buildings, our support also covered essential items needed for teaching and day-to-day school operations, such as pens, paper, and learning materials.
After three years of construction, the passive solar school building was completed in September 2023. It now enables year-round education for 60 children aged 5 to 13 — primarily from Chharka and the surrounding villages. Due to the extreme cold, school had previously only been possible for about seven months of the year. This has significantly improved educational opportunities for the children of the region.
Dolpo is a remote and high-altitude region in northwestern Nepal, bordering Tibet, with no roads connecting it to the rest of the country. The village of Chharka lies at an elevation of 4,300 meters. Although it is only about 159 kilometers from Kathmandu, the lack of infrastructure means it takes a full day by jeep to reach. For nearly two years, Nepalhilfe Beilngries had been planning and financing the construction of a highly efficient low-energy school building tailored to the region’s harsh conditions — including challenging infrastructure and material sourcing. Transporting construction materials required the use of animals like donkeys and buffaloes, as the terrain is rugged and can only be crossed on footpaths at high elevations of over 4,000 meters.

With the help of deuter, the Shanti Nikunja School in Kathmandu was newly built in 2013. At the start we donated about 30,000 € for the construction of the building as well as 300 school backpacks and pencil cases.
Since then, the locals sometimes talk about the "deuter school" in the heart of Kathmandu. An e-learning center for learning foreign languages was also set up with our financial support.

De levensomstandigheden in Nepal kunnen alleen maar beter worden als onderwijs, gezondheidszorg en sanitaire voorzieningen worden verbeterd en de levensstandaard kan alleen vanuit het land zelf worden verhoogd. In het verleden kregen veel schoolgaande kinderen in Nepal geen basisonderwijs, omdat scholen voor velen onbetaalbaar of simpelweg te ver weg waren. De schoolprojecten van Nepalhilfe kunnen daar verandering in brengen. De Shanti Nikunja basisschool in Kathmandu is bijvoorbeeld gebouwd met behulp van deuter. Om te beginnen hebben we € 30.000 voor de nieuwbouw en 300 schoolrugzakken en etuis gedoneerd. Sindsdien noemt de lokale bevolking de school in het hart van Kathmandu de ‘deuter school’. Daarnaast hebben we ook een e-learningcentrum voor vreemde talen gefinancierd.
deuter ondersteunt Nepalhilfe sinds 2013 elk jaar financieel en doneert naar behoefte rugzakken, slaapzakken en accessoires. Met de hulp van deuter werd de Shanti Nikunja School in Kathmandu nieuw gebouwd. In het begin hebben we ongeveer 30.000 € gedoneerd voor de bouw van het gebouw, evenals 300 schoolrugzakken en etuis. Sindsdien spreekt de lokale bevolking soms over de "deuter school" in het hartje van Kathmandu. Ook een e-learning centrum voor het leren van vreemde talen werd met onze financiële steun opgezet.
Projecten zoals het nieuw gebouwde gezondheidsstation in Kubinde (ongeveer 80 kilometer ten oosten van Kathmandu) werden gerealiseerd en voltooid in 2021. Het vervangt de eerder bestaande faciliteit, die volledig werd verwoest door de aardbeving van 2015. Bovendien wordt in Siranchour een lagere school gebouwd voor ongeveer 110.000 euro. Een ander project is een dagverzorgingscentrum voor mensen met een lichamelijke of geestelijke handicap in Lubhu. Het werd in de vroege zomer van 2021 in gebruik genomen.
