What is a biking backpack?
Biking backpacks are specially designed backpacks for cyclists. They create a comfortable, compact fit against the back, offer space for a range of items and often have good ventilation, reflective elements and a hydration system.
What are the most important aspects of a bike backpack?
A snug fit that stays put – that’s the most important aspect of a good bike backpack. Having a range of different fits means you can find a biking pack that fits the individual rider. Depending on the backpack model, a waist belt, sternum strap, hip fins and adjustable shoulder straps can be used to cinch the pack against your back, so it doesn’t move around while you’re riding your bike but is still not constrictive in any way.
How should a bike backpack fit?
The best way to check that a bike backpack fits well is to adopt the standard cycling position. With your upper body slightly or more acutely bent forward, (depending on your preferred riding position) adjust the shoulder straps of your mountain biking backpack or compact bike pack until they feel comfortable and snug. As for the waist belt, like all backpacks, it should be positioned over the crest of the hipbone.

Bike I
A piece of history: Launched in 1990, the Bike I was the first ever bike backpack to be made, and it’s been further developed and improved ever since. With its clean lines and intelligent configuration, it’s the perfect partner for adventures on two wheels. The slightly larger Bike I 16 and Bike I 20 models come with perforated hip fins and flexible aluminum rods that mold to the back and create a snug fit with heavier loads.
Superbike
The Superbike has garnered almost legendary status among bikers over the years, and its design has therefore remained largely unchanged. The supple mesh hip fins with Pull-Forward adjustment and the deuter Airstripes back system work together to give this backpack a secure, gravity-defying fit. The deuter Superbike also comes with a built-in Windshield gilet, to use as protection on fast downhills. And in neon colors, it gives riders better road safety. The Superbike also features a neon-colored rain cover that’s detachable, as well as a removable sit mat for, for rest breaks along the way.

Built-in back and spine protectors – without shielding your back, riding at the bike park isn’t an option. The Hiline’s EPU back padding and built-in memory foam back protector is ideal for enduro bikers and even suitable for enduro racing. Our Airstripes back system is now even more air permeable. That’s down to the open structure of its 3D printed back padding. The Hiline fits perfectly, has an elasticated sternum strap and waist belt which allow unrestricted movement and plenty of airflow, and the design is climate conscious and therefore intentionally resource efficient.

All deuter products have been made without PFC / PFAS since spring/ summer 2020, to help protect the natural world. The DWR finish we now use is environmentally friendly and still highly functional at repelling water.
