deuter sleeping bags - your warm outdoor bed for any time of year

When you’ve spent all day on the move, you look forward to having a good night’s rest and recuperation. But even if you’re far from the comfort of your own bed, with the right gear, you can still get a good night’s sleep. A deuter sleeping bag is your trusty companion for nights spent in a tent, at a hut, in the car, or even under the stars. We have a wide selection of different sleeping bag types and styles to suit a range of activities and environments. Find out which sleeping bag is best suited to your needs:

Down-filled sleeping bags: Lightweight & Highly insulating

Sustainable, warmth regulating and quick to heat up – down sleeping bags have many advantages. Down feathers are the underplumage of ducks and geese. While extremely light in weight, the special structure of these feathers gives them uniquely effective insulation properties. In making all our products, we take care to minimize the use of resources and minimize their impact on people and the environment. We only use down that meet the Responsible Down Standard, ensuring animal welfare and ethical husbandry.

Choose a down sleeping bag for:

  • When every gram of weight counts. Sleeping bags with down fill have a smaller packed size and are lighter than comparable synthetic sleeping bags.
  • When you’re spending time in drier, continental Europe or American climates, where temperatures can drop in the nighttime.

Find out more about the benefits of down sleeping bags:

Astro
The Astro down sleeping bag is not only light as a feather but is also highly robust thanks to the dense weave of its shell fabric. And because it’s also highly compressible, it packs down small – making it a packable choice for any adventure. It delivers a comfortable and warm night’s sleep thanks to its moisture wicking performance. What about if you’re prone to cold feet? This down sleeping bag has extra thick down fill in the foot area to keep your toes toasty warm. And the cut of the foot section is also more raised to accommodate a natural foot position.

Astro Pro
The Astro Pro sleeping bag also benefits from down fill and its many advantages. Its moisture management and ultra-soft lining fabric makes this sleeping bag extremely comfortable. This down sleeping bag uses trapezoid-shaped baffles that prevent cold spots. When you’re camping, it’s usually your head and toes that are most subject to the cold. Which is why we incorporate extra baffles in the head, foot and leg sections of the sleeping bag. A draft collar, also filled with down, prevents cold air from working its way in near the neck.

SYNTHETIc-filled sleeping bags: Easy-care & Fast drying

For our synthetic sleeping bags, we use smooth, partly hollow synthetic fibers that insulate perfectly and keep the warmth inside the sleeping bag. These fibers are derived from polyester which is both water resistant and quick drying.

Choose a synthetic sleeping bag for:

  • Spending time in damper climates. Synthetic sleeping bags retain their insulation performance in up to 70% humidity, and they dry fast too.
  • If you want an easy-care sleeping bag.
deuter has the following synthetic sleeping bags:

Dreamlite
The deuter Dreamlite range of sleeping bags are lightweight, making them well suited to longer mountain journeys. These synthetic insulation sleeping bags are made from tough polyamide fibers. The hollowfiber fill gives the Dreamlite optimum insulation. And the mummy shape adds to that comfortable, cocooning sleep environment. But without feeling restricted in any way, so you can always sleep in your favorite position. The Comfort temperature rating for this sleeping bag is 16° C. Can’t find a sleeping bag that’s long enough for you? For taller people, the Dreamlite is available in an EL size which is 220 cm long (7’2”) – a full 15 cm (6”) longer than the Regular sized model.

Orbit
We lose most of our body heat through our head. Which is why the Orbit sleeping bag comes with a contoured, insulated hood. It wraps around your head and keeps it warm throughout the night. And this synthetic sleeping bag also has an ergonomic foot section, to comfortably accommodate your feet in any position. This prevents the fill from becoming compressed. The mummy shape with a slimmer cut in the lower leg section keeps your feet nice and warm, while the upper section offers full freedom of movement. To avoid any air pockets that require extra time and energy to heat up, you should make sure your sleeping bag is a good fit for your body shape.

Exosphere
The Exosphere synthetic sleeping bag is perfect for winter hiking trips. The shingle construction of the baffles results in insulation that’s overlapping and therefore seamless. Extra fill in the foot section ensures your feet stay warm. The different overlap ratio of the layers gives these mummy-shaped sleeping bags a range of comfort ratings from between -4° C, to 0° C and up to 5° C. Whether you’re curled up on your side or lying on your back with your knees bent up, the stretchy seams of this mummy shaped sleeping bag gives you the freedom of movement you need for sleep. And when it’s time to strike camp again and move on, the lightweight insulation fibers of the Exosphere means it packs down small and is compact to transport.

Mummy shape & rectangular sleeping bags from deuter

At deuter, there are two choices of insulation fill for your sleeping bag, as well as two different cuts: Mummy shaped or rectangular sleeping bags. As a general rule, the more snug a sleeping bag fits, the better it will keep you warm. This is where the mummy sleeping bag comes in. But make sure it’s not too small as this will restrict your movements. It’s one of the reasons rectangular sleeping bags are so popular, and because they can also be opened out like a quilt. Ultimately, your sleeping bag needs to fit the dimensions of your body. So, whether you decide on a rectangular sleeping bag, a mummy shape sleeping bag, or a stretchy mummy shape with Thermo Stretch seams, it’s essentially down to your own preferences.

The right sleeping bag to suit different body shapes

For a good night’s rest, you need a sleeping bag that fits well – it’s not only more comfortable, but if it’s too small, then the fill becomes compressed, and its insulation performance will be compromised. And at the other end of the spectrum, you don’t want it to be too big, so you have to warm up extra air in the void spaces. The size of a sleeping bag also affects its weight and pack size.

That’s why deuter offers three different sizes of sleeping bag: The Regular models are for people who are up to approx. 185 cm (6’) tall. At deuter, there are also EL and SL models: The EL (Extra Long) models are for people up to 200 cm (6’6”) tall. And the SL (Slim Line) women’s fit of sleeping bags for women is for those up to 175 cm tall (5’8”). Compared to sleeping bags for men, the SL models are designed with cold-sensitive areas in mind and have extra insulation in the kidney and foot zones. deuter has also developed sleeping bags for children, with all the technical qualities of the grown-up models, plus, the same quality materials. These are designed for children up to 170 cm tall (or 5’6”). Our kids’ sleeping bags have a zip extension in the foot section, that grows with your child.

Our top tip: Big feet? Then add an extra 5 cm (2”) to your measurement to find the right size sleeping bag for you.

Camping sleeping bags & backpacking sleeping bags

If you want to spend several nights sleeping outdoors, you should choose a sleeping bag that’s suitable for backpacking or camping. It’s important that it is resistant to moisture. Changeable weather, rain, dew, fog and high humidity levels near water? A camping or backpacking sleeping bag needs to be fast-drying and unaffected by moisture. A synthetic sleeping bag is more suited here. Down sleeping bags, on the other hand, are lighter and more compact, especially if you’re going to be sleeping in cold conditions and need more insulation.

Exosphere
The Exosphere synthetic sleeping bags from deuter are designed for camping, trekking and backpacking. They offer outstanding warmth for the weight and are made from easy-care synthetic materials. Their insulation is unimpaired by moisture, and they dry fast. Using an innovative stretchy seam construction, the Exosphere sleeping bags provide outstanding warmth and insulation performance. These backpacking sleeping bags are also light and compressible. Depending on the model, they go down to a limit temperature rating of -10° C.

Astro
When you need to keep weight to a minimum and you’re carrying your tent etc. in a waterproof backpacking backpack, then the deuter Astro sleeping bags are down filled and perfect for backpacking and camping in colder climates. Depending on the model, these ultralight down sleeping bags have a Comfort temperature rating of 7° C (at a total weight of 750 grams) down to -12° C (at a total weight of 1,500 grams). In rainy conditions and high humidity, you will need to take care, and maybe consider planning a rest day for drying out gear when the sun comes out again.
