The Photographers

Three Perspectives. One Journey.

Jannik Obenhoff, Long-Nong Huang and Jochen Manz bring their own unique perspectives to Light & Motion by deuter.
While all three explored Levi, Finland, Jochen and Long-Nong continued the adventure in Missouri, USA – capturing each destination through their own lens.

Discover the journeys

The legendary Route 66, the sweeping landscapes of the Ozarks, ancient forests and rock formations, crystal-clear springs, fascinating cities –
and that distinctive light of the American Midwest.
Missouri is a road trip full of contrasts.
A destination made for our photographers to explore from completely different perspectives.

Route 66

Travelling through Missouri, you quickly get a sense of its spirit of freedom and adventure. This is the birthplace of Route 66 – with around 500 kilometres of the legendary highway running through the state. Along the way, historic bridges, nostalgic motels, old petrol stations and small towns take you on a journey back to the 1950s and the golden age of the American automobile.

But there is plenty to discover in Missouri beyond the famous route. In St. Louis and St. Charles, urban life meets history, while further west lie the wine-growing region around Augusta and the rolling hills and dense forests of the Ozarks. Rivers, rock formations and expansive state parks invite visitors to go hiking, canoeing or simply unwind around a campfire. Missouri's fascinating light adds a magic of its own. Clear rivers, pale limestone cliffs and red granite monoliths reflect the sun's rays, while the landscape is bathed in warm, rich colours in the early morning and late afternoon. A paradise for nature lovers and photographers alike.

This is where Light & Motion by deuter begins: where extraordinary natural landscapes meet movement, and unique moments of light become unforgettable experiences. Equipped with gear from deuter and Tamron, photographers Jochen and Long travelled to Missouri to explore the state from their own individual perspectives. The result: two distinct visual stories, united by one common theme – Light & Motion.

One Journey. Different Perspectives.

Long-Nong Huang and Jochen Manz travelled together to the heart of the USA. Yet despite visiting the same places, their photographs each tell a unique story.

Experience Missouri

A journey through the vast landscapes of the Ozarks and the spirit of Route 66

Discover Missouri from a variety of perspectives: watching the sunrise at the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge, exploring the wooded hills of the Ozarks, wandering among the monumental granite boulders of Elephant Rocks State Park or canoeing along the Current River. Along the way: historic towns, the wine-growing region around Augusta and the legendary Route 66 – a journey filled with adventure and moments of tranquillity, always in search of that special light.

A road trip through Missouri could hardly begin more beautifully than with sunrise at the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge in St. Louis. Known as the Gateway to the West, the city is famous for its museums, sculptures and parks – but above all for its iconic landmark, the 192-metre-high Gateway Arch, which rises into the sky above the Mississippi River.

From St. Louis, the journey continued southeast into the Ozark Mountains. With their wooded hills, small towns and historic roads, the landscapes offered the LIGHT & MOTION by deuter team a constant stream of exciting new perspectives and fantastic photographic opportunities.

For the next highlight of their LIGHT & MOTION by deuter journey, the team visited one of Missouri’s geological wonders: Elephant Rocks State Park, home to ancient, monumental granite boulders that stand in the landscape like a herd of giant elephants. In the golden evening light, the red granite seems to glow. The following morning, the journey continued through the Ozarks: over Taum Sauk Mountain, to Johnson’s Shut-Ins State Park and onwards to Echo Bluff State Park. Here, the landscape became wilder and more unspoilt. On the Current River, the team explored the Ozarks from the water, canoeing between wooded riverbanks and striking rock cliffs.

Old bridges, faded advertising signs and small towns where time seems to move a little more slowly. Pure nostalgia. Along Route 66, one piece of American history follows another: from the large-scale murals in Cuba that tell stories of days gone by, to Hooker Cut and Devil’s Elbow Bridge, where the historic road winds through the Ozarks, and Neon Park in St. Robert, where vintage neon signs bring the era of motels, diners and late-night road trips back to life. In between, there were plenty of opportunities to explore the great outdoors, with hikes and action-packed adventures along the way. After a detour to explore the limestone caves of Onondaga Cave State Park, Maramec Spring Park was one of the final highlights of the journey – a place to marvel at nature, take a moment to unwind and capture its unique atmosphere.

The journey eventually came to an end in historic St. Charles, bringing the LIGHT & MOTION by deuter team's Missouri road trip to a close.

LIGHT & MOTION by deuter captures the essence of a destination that reveals ist most beautiful sides through the interplay of light and shadow, movement and encounters.

Levi, in Finnish Lapland, is a place where extraordinary light meets unspoilt nature and unforgettable outdoor adventures.
A journey of endless days and moments that stay with you long after you've returned home.

The magic of the Finnish midsummer lies in its extraordinary light.

For weeks, the sun never sets, bathing the landscape in ever-changing colours around the clock. Here, the "golden hour" lasts not just a few minutes, but for hours. During the day, the light is crisp and bright, while around midnight the landscape glows in warm shades of gold, yellow and orange. This extraordinary atmosphere makes Levi a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts and photographers alike.

This is where Light & Motion by deuter begins. When exceptional light meets movement, images are created that tell stories – on mountain bike trails, in a canoe, during encounters with huskies and horses, or around a campfire in the vast wilderness of Lapland.

Equipped with gear from deuter and Tamron, and supported by travel partner journaway, three photographers travelled to Levi in June to explore the region from their own unique perspectives. Between rolling fells, winding rivers and endless forests, they created three distinct visual stories – all connected by one shared theme: Light & Motion.

Experience Levi

A journey through the mountains, along the river and under the midnight sun.

Discover Levi in Lapland from a whole range of perspectives – whether you’re looking for an active holiday, a more relaxed break, or simply in search of that very special light.

After arriving and checking in at the Design Hotel Levi, our first evening took us to Levi Fjäll. Finland’s largest ski resort is situated around 170 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle. Here, we were treated to fantastic views of the play of light in the summer sky and across the endless expanses of Lapland.

The following day was all about exercise and nature. The team explored the trails around Levi on e-mountain bikes. At Elves Village (@elvesvillage) and during a visit to the Aurora Pyramids in Tonttula, the focus was on culture and Finnish Midsummer traditions.

When the sun doesn’t set, the night seems endless. After dinner at the Saunabaari (@saunabaarilevi) right on the shores of Lake Immeljärvi, one of the highlights of the trip followed: the traditional midsummer bonfire on the fell – above the tree line, in the midst of the tundra landscape. The arctic-bright night drew to a close with a canoe trip (@kinossafaris) on the Levijoki River and Lake Sirkkajärvi – offering countless photo opportunities that impressively showcase the unique light of this region.

Together with Polar Light Tours (@polarlightstours), the team was able to experience the beauty of Levi’s unspoilt nature at first hand on a husky safari and a horse trekking tour. The highlights of the trip were: the wilderness village of Raattama on the edge of the Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park (@saivowild) and the Saturday Grill Night at the Panorama Restaurant (@hotellevipanorama) with sweeping views of the surrounding countryside.

The result is a portrait of a destination that shows itself at its best in summer – with a mix of activities, nature experiences and the ever-changing play of light.
