Michael Wohlleben’s Journey to Becoming a Professional Climber

Episode from March 19, 2024

While most people his age were sitting in school, Michi conquered one mountain after another in his youth. He preferred fast and difficult routes. At age 14, he had already stood on Mont Blanc. Difficulty levels of 8+ were nothing new to him. Thanks to his talent and determination, he made it onto the expedition team and, at age 21, became one of the youngest ski and mountain guides. Being part of the squad helped him find his first sponsors, and he gradually became a professional climber. Michi lives with his family in Switzerland. Speed climbing no longer holds much interest for him today. It’s not so much the time but the difficulty that makes climbing mountains appealing to him now. A question that always lingers in the back of his mind as he prepares for his tours is, “Can I do this?”
