Snowshoe backpacks by deuter

Design follows function: at deuter, we put this principle into practice with the help of our winter and mountaineering experts, because a snowshoe backpack has to meet different requirements than, for example, a trekking backpack or a climbing backpack. We have equipped our snowshoe backpacks with the following features:

  • Secure fit without slipping thanks to the Alpine back system
  • Well-thought-out features, e.g. snowshoe holders & compartments for avalanche transceiver equipment
  • Sustainable production & eco-friendly materials

Snowshoe backpack with Alpine back system – for a secure fit

Two soft pads positioned parallel to the spine and a soft pad in the lumbar region mould themselves to your back: the Alpine carrying system has been specially developed for high-altitude use. Combined with the slim pack, it keeps the load close to your centre of gravity, ensuring a particularly secure fit. This helps you maintain your balance even with a fully loaded snowshoe backpack – whether on open terrain or on a summit ridge.

How comfortable a backpack is also depends on your own body shape. deuter has therefore developed a fit specifically for people with narrower shoulders and a shorter back. Women in particular often opt for SL (Slim Line) backpack models when choosing a snowshoe backpack. You can find more information on backpack sizes and fits in our guide.

Want to attach your snowshoes to your backpack? Our snowshoe backpacks can do even more

Designed for your snowshoe tour

The Rise 34+ and Rise 32+ SL backpacks offer hikers solutions for the challenges of snowshoe tours. You can stow your snowshoes quickly and securely using special straps and buckles on the front of the snowshoe backpack. There’s also space for your hiking poles. The sides of your backpack remain free, keeping the weight close to your body.

There is a zip on the back of the backpack that allows you to access the contents without having to detach the snowshoes from the backpack. You can also store your avalanche safety equipment in the reinforced safety compartment at the front of the backpack, where you can quickly reach your avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe. You can store your first-aid kit and other safety equipment in the lid pocket and access it directly when needed.

What are the advantages of snowshoe backpacks?

A winter backpack for snowshoeing, just like a ski touring backpack, offers many functional advantages over a standard backpack. To ensure you’re fully equipped for your next snowshoe tour, you’ll benefit from these features:

  • A holder for a hydration bladder with a capacity of up to 3 litres
  • Easily accessible safety compartment for your safety equipment
  • Stretch inner compartment for wet clothing
  • Elasticated side pockets and a spacious inner compartment for your valuables
  • Backpack volume of 34 litres or 32 litres, expandable by eight litres
  • Compression straps for snowshoes or a snowboard
  • Padded shoulder straps and hip fins with two zipped pockets
  • Glasses holder on the shoulder strap Loops for helmet attachment
  • Sophisticated Alpine carrying system, developed specifically for alpine terrain

Even when hiking with snowshoes, there is a risk of being caught in an avalanche and buried under masses of snow. To reduce this risk, you’ll also find avalanche backpacks in the deuter online shop, which use an airbag to pull you to the surface in the event of an avalanche.

Our tip: Are you about to go on your first snowshoe hike or looking for some fresh inspiration? In our guide Tips for snowshoeing, you’ll find helpful information on suitable clothing, the right route and a suggested packing list.

Snowshoeing backpacks: manufactured without PFAS

With snowshoes on your feet and the horizon in view – a snowshoe hike brings you into unparalleled contact with nature. We want to preserve this beauty, which is why backpacks from deuter are guided by a clear commitment to sustainability. We avoid environmentally harmful chemicals (PFAS) and use an eco-friendly DWR finish instead.

Our snowshoe backpacks are also bluesign®-certified: this means that both the materials and the manufacturing process meet the strict CSR standards of the bluesign® system. This ensures that not only are the materials used tested for harmful substances, but that all stages of production are classified as safe – for a better future for you and the people who produce goods for deuter. Read more here about what the bluesign® standard means.

Snowshoe backpacks feature special straps or loops, so you don’t need to take any fastening equipment with you on your trip. You can use these to stow your snowshoes quickly and securely at the front of the backpack. There’s also space there for your walking poles. The sides of your backpack remain free, so the weight sits close to your body – and your gear is guaranteed to be securely fastened.
Your snowshoe backpack should fit you perfectly and be comfortable and secure to carry over long periods. As well as a mounting system for your snowshoes and enough storage space for an avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe, a first-aid kit and other safety equipment, the following features are also beneficial: A deuter snowshoe backpack, for example, offers a holder for a hydration bladder with a capacity of up to 3 litres or a stretch inner compartment for wet clothing. A large volume of up to 40 litres combined with a low weight fulfils all the requirements for a good backpack for your next snow tour.
Your new backpack isn’t officially labelled as waterproof – this is because of the zips, which can allow water to seep in during heavy rain if you don’t use a rain cover. Nevertheless, the high-quality material is water-repellent thanks to its eco-friendly DWR coating. After heavy use, you can of course refresh the coating at any time.
