The bluesign® standard

Deuter has been a bluesign® partner since 2008.

To optimize our production processes we are working with the bluesign® standard - the strictest environmental standard for textile products worldwide.

The bluesign® standard is not only the strictest standard for environmental protection but also for safety at work and consumer protection. In contrast to other eco-labels, the bluesign® standard does not monitor the final product for contaminants or residues of chemical pollutants but concentrates on the manufacturing process itself and every component of it.

Throughout the production process, beginning with the raw materials till the final product, we are looking for optimization potential regarding material usage, energy and water use, handling of chemicals, noise, waste and wastewater as well as safety at work.

More information about the bluesign® standard can be found here: www.bluesign.com

Responsible Down Standard

In order to ensure the appropriate animal welfare throughout our supply chain, we only use certified down and feathers since June 2015.

In the production of our sleeping bags we mainly use synthetic fibers, down only makes up for 16%. This natural product still offers the best insulation compared to synthetic fibers, especially when the ratio of light weight to high heat output is considered.

Through live plucking and stuffing mast, serious injuries can occur to the animals during down harvesting. To minimize these risks, we have been using only down as a waste product in the Chinese food industry from the beginning.

Since June 2015, we have gone a step further and only buy down that has been certified according to the Responsible Down Standard (RDS). The entire production and supply chain from the chick through the cleaned down to the finished sleeping bag in the sports shop must be comprehensible. Transparency is the ultimate goal. Each individual production site worldwide is visited and evaluated by independent, professional inspectors. When the animal protection is respected in all phases, the sleeping bag meets the requirements of the RDS certificate (Responsible Down Standard). Deuter Headquarter

The headquarter in Gersthofen near Augsburg Deuter moved into at the end of 2012 meets high environmental standards.

Social Responsibility

Fair Wear Foundation

Deuter has chosen an unusual path: we work with only two production partners who produce all our products. Our backpack supplier has been an exclusive and trusting partnership for more than 20 years, and also our sleeping bags have been produced by the same manufacturer for over 12 years. We therefore offered good prerequisites for joining the FWF guidelines from 2011 onwards from the very first, and can work intensively on their implementation in the factories.

Who is the FWF?
The FWF is an independent organization that cooperates with companies and factories worldwide. The aim is to improve working conditions in the textile and clothing industry, especially in low-wage countries. By joining, we have committed ourselves to the strict FWF's Code of Labour Practices.
